A huge congratulations to John Downes who was presented with the SFE Lifetime Achievement Award last week. Amongst John’s passions are heath and safety, sustainability and the sharing of knowledge, and he has been able to use his position within the industry to make real change. John was involved at Board level at CWCT for over a decade and played a key role in the strategy of CWCT during that time.
In relation to H&S, he has driven culture change in the companies he has worked for and was also a key contributor to CWCT H&S guidance.
John’s work in the field of sustainability is truly phenomenal. He has helped to bring together a huge number of people to work collaboratively to produce much needed industry guidance in this area. The whole conversation around sustainability has moved at great speed in recent years, and John is a key reason for this.
He remains as passionate as ever, and is continuing to drive sustainable innovation, challenge organisations to do better and help companies in their transition to a more sustainable future.
Congratulations also to our own Katie Cunningham, who won the best dissertation award for her dissertation titled ‘Design for Disassembly and Reuse: A UK Methodology for Assessing the Disassembly and Reuse of Façade’, as part of the MSc in Façade Engineering at UWE Bristol. Katie has recently joined our team to focus on our sustainability work.
Well done to both John and Katie, and congratulations to all the award winners. A list of winners can be found here.
